Here’s a little video that explains why people choose Springwood. The closest hotel to Gatwick Airport.
Gatwick South and North Terminal Hotels
There are of course hotels located directly on the airport at both the North and South Terminals.
The Bloc and The Hilton at South Terminal have direct access to the terminal building without having to go outside, which is great.
However, a lot of people avoid the on airport hotels for three main reasons...
3 Reasons why travellers avoid the Gatwick ‘On-Airport’ Hotels
#1 They don’t like the Rip-Off Holiday Parking costs!
A weeks holiday parking (inc one night’s stay in a double room) at a typical on-airport hotel (at the time of writing) is £188
At Springwood, the same week ( inc one night’s stay in a superior double room) will cost you just £124
Saving you… £64
#2 The On-Airport Hotel Parking tends to also be real hassle!
This is because, the hotels don’t have enough on-site parking to accomodate your Holiday Parking needs. So you can expect to have to drive your car out to one of the Gatwick Long Term car parks and wait for a bus to get you back to the terminal. And then suffer the same inconvinience upon your return from your trip.
And don’t forget… Some of long term car parks used by the airport hotels are as much as a 15 minute journey away. A real drag if you have just come off a long flight, especially as you can wait up to 20 minutes for the bus, if you have just missed one.
Some of the on-airport hotels try to get around all the ‘negative press’ they get from the parking nightmares by offering a Meet and Greet service.
Meet and Greet Pitfalls
Meet and Greet is fine if you’ve got an old car that you don’t care about.
Remember, you’ll be handing your keys over to a guy on minimum wage, who will disappear your car to a field somewhere in Sussex.
Just make sure you photograph it from every angle to make sure you can prove the damage wasn’t there when you handed it over. There are loads of stories of people coming back to damaged cars and being unable to prove the damage wasn’t there when they left it. To bad for them!
Photograph also the fuel level and the mileage so you can make sure it hasn’t been siphoned or driven around excessively.
Charging you for parking on the night of your stay
Some on-airport hotels will even charge you £25 just to park your car at the hotel on the night of your stay. At Springwood, we would never charge customers for parking the night of their stay.
#3 The food is also not great value!
Because they’ve got you as a captive audience, the hotel and terminal restaurants ‘over charge’ you for mediocre food. In fact, none of the restaurants in any of the airport hotels enjoy a great reputation on TripAdvisor – that is, apart from being pricey!
A main, for example, can easily cost you £25 per head.
In contrast… a main at Zeno’s, a very popular Italian Restaurant (withing close walking distance of Springwood) is on average around £11. Most of the other local restaurants are around the same price point and offer a wide variety of food choice!
So… which hotel is closest to Gatwick Airport (without all the Rip-Off Holiday Parking costs… It’s Springwood
