Springwood is ideally located for day-trips to the country’s capital, to coastal cities such as Brighton, as well as within striking distance of an array of charming market towns.
It is also a perfect base from which to visit beautiful country side and some hidden gems – one of which is the National Trust’s Morden Hall Park located just 22 miles from Horley.
Morden Hall Park is a former deer park and one of the few remaining London estates that used to line the River Wandle. A wild-life haven exists within its 125 acres of meadows, trees and woodland, wetlands and along the river itself. However, a number of the original industrial buildings have been renovated with an old Water Mill used as a learning centre, and the Stable Yard renovations are an on-going show-case for sustainable living and energy renewal, as well as housing the Potting Shed Cafe and well-stocked second-hand bookshop.
A number of buildings are also used by local crafts-people and artisans and often the work-shops are open for visits too. Morden Hall Park is also home to the first National Trust Garden Centre and is situated on the site of the original estate’s kitchen garden.
Morden Hall Park will be getting into the spirit of Christmas over the first two weekends of December (5th and 6th, and 13th and 14th). Embracing its past history and evoking a Victorian Christmas, the Stable Yard will be host to craft and gift stalls, live music and carol-singing, all to be enjoyed with mulled wine, mince-pies and hot roasted chestnuts! On the 6th December visitors can make hand-made decorations and play a part in the Christmas Tree Dressing Festival too!
Similarly Christmas wreath making workshops will be held at the National Trust’s Bookham Commons on Friday 4th December between 10.00am and 3.00pm, and on Sunday Sun 6th December at the Witley Centre, also between 10.00 and 3.00pm.
Naturally there are many seasonal events on offer in the area but these lesser known venues will complement a relaxing pre-Christmas break-away at Springwood…. give us a call and book now!
